For reference: yesterday, December 20, in the city center of Magdeburg, the capital of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, a BMW vehicle drove into a crowd at a Christmas market at high speed. As a result of the incident, two people lost their lives. The number of injured ranges from 60 to 80, with varying degrees of injury. The newspaper Volksstimme reported 11 fatalities, but this information has not been confirmed by official sources.

A representative of the Saxony-Anhalt government described the event as a terrorist attack in an interview with Tagesschau, but no official statements have yet been made. The state’s Prime Minister, Reiner Haseloff, arrived at the scene and described the incident as a "horrific event."

Following the incident, the Christmas market was immediately closed, and tram services in the city center were suspended. The causes of the tragedy remain unknown.
