NATO Asks Türkiye to Deploy F-16s to Baltics Ahead of Schedule
World
NATO has asked Türkiye to deploy F-16 fighter jets earlier than planned for the alliance’s air policing mission over the Baltic region. If Ankara agrees, Turkish aircraft would be stationed in Estonia from August to December 2026, several months ahead of the original schedule.
Türkiye had previously planned to deploy its F-16s to Romania as part of a NATO mission from December 2026 to March 2027. The new request would require adjustments to that timeline.
According to Bloomberg, Ankara has not yet provided an official response to the alliance’s early deployment request. Türkiye’s potential involvement is being considered as part of efforts to strengthen air security along NATO’s eastern flank.
