Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to New York on September 23 to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, he will remain in the United States until September 25.
The General Debate of the 81st General Assembly is scheduled for September 22–26, with an additional sitting on September 28. Netanyahu’s visit will take place during the high-level meetings at the UN headquarters in New York.
According to Israeli media, Netanyahu is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 24. Israeli officials expect protests over his presence in New York. Last year, several delegations walked out of the General Assembly hall during Netanyahu’s address.
Security preparations are also attracting attention. Earlier media reports said New York police officials were concerned about potential risks during the Israeli prime minister’s visit. The Jerusalem Post, citing the New York Post, reported that NYPD officials had linked additional security challenges to New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s previous calls for Netanyahu’s arrest and his support for protests against the visit.
The city’s legal position was later clarified. Mamdani said New York City did not have independent legal authority to enforce an International Criminal Court arrest warrant against Netanyahu, while encouraging residents to exercise their right to protest.
