Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Colonel-General Alexander Syrsky as the new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He announced this in his official Telegram channel.

"From today, a new management team comes to the leadership of the Armed forces of Ukraine. I want the vision of the war to be united both among our soldiers in Rabotyn or Avdeevka, and in the General Staff and at the stakes," he wrote on social media.

The president noted in his post that he had held dozens of conversations with commanders of different levels, in particular with brigadier generals Andriy Ignatov, Mykhaylo Drapaty, Ihor Skibyuk and colonels Pavlo Palisa and Vadym Sukharevsky.

"They are all being considered for senior positions in the army and will serve under the most experienced Ukrainian commander. He has a successful experience of defence-Kiev defensive operation. He also has successful experience of offensive-Kharkiv liberation operation. I have appointed Colonel-General Syrsky as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Today I also spoke with Generals Moisyuk and Zabrodsky. Their experience is at the service of the state," President Zelensky emphasised.
