Uzbekistan

Today, on May 5th, the first South Korean-made high-speed train departed from Tashkent for the legendary city of Khiva. Merging modern technology with large-scale electrification of desert sections, this project transforms a grueling multi-hour journey into a comfortable trip across the entire country.

New High-Speed Express Launched in Uzbekistan
On May 5, 2026, the next-generation "Jaloliddin Manguberdi" train, manufactured by Hyundai Rotem, solemnly embarked on its maiden voyage from the Tashkent-Central station. The launch of this express was made possible by the total electrification of the 450-kilometer "Bukhara – Urgench – Khiva" section, specifically adapted for high-speed rail traffic.

The primary advantage of the new service is the massive reduction in travel time. While the journey to Khiva previously took 14 hours, the new train covers the 1,022-kilometer distance in just seven and a half hours. The development of high-speed connections not only enhances comfort for the country's residents but also radically expands the region's tourism potential by linking the capital with the ancient cities of Khorezm in the shortest possible time.
