According to reports from Turkey's renowned Milliyet newspaper, the Ministry of Education has amended its 2024 regulations to officially ban any activities associated with New Year, Christmas, and Halloween celebrations.
Following written directives issued by the education directorates of Istanbul's Bağcılar and Ataşehir districts prohibiting New Year celebrations in schools, local journalists conducted investigations.
In an official letter sent by the Ataşehir District Directorate of Education to schools, it was stated:
"All types of lotteries, celebrations, and events involving digital, written, and visual content sharing under the name of New Year, Christmas, or Halloween celebrations, which contradict national and cultural values, must not be conducted in schools and institutions under our authority. I kindly request compliance with this directive."
The directive from the Bağcılar District Directorate of Education similarly emphasized that events and decorations under the name of New Year celebrations should not take place in schools and classrooms.
Additionally, the Ministry of Education amended its 2024 regulations to formalize the prohibition of such activities.
