"Our military has increased surveillance and vigilance and is closely coordinating with the United States while monitoring for further signs and activity from North Korea," the Korean Armed Forces' Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.

According to the agency, the missiles were travelling on a circular trajectory, which is typical of cruise missiles flying at low altitude, as opposed to ballistic missiles. It is claimed that the range was considerable and the missiles were launched from the ground. Yonhap speculated that they could have been Hwasal-1 or Hwasal-2 missiles capable of carrying Hwasan-31 nuclear warheads.
