North Korean Hackers Stole $1.3 Billion in Cryptocurrency in 2024

North Korean hackers stole more from cryptocurrency platforms this year than in previous years, according to Chainalysis Inc. Researchers consider this event a threat to U.S. national security.
This year, a total of $2.2 billion was stolen by thieves and scammers. Researchers estimate that North Korean groups were responsible for stealing more than half of the total amount.
According to a report by the blockchain analytics company released on Thursday, digital thieves linked to North Korea used advanced methods such as manipulating remote work opportunities and were responsible for more than half of the $2.2 billion stolen from platforms in 2024.
The company’s data shows that North Korean-affiliated groups stole $1.34 billion in 47 incidents in 2024, compared to $660.5 million across 20 incidents in 2023.
