One card is two countries: Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have linked their payment systems
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan’s HUMO and Kyrgyzstan’s “Elkart” payment systems have announced the launch of a mutual acquiring project, allowing cardholders from both countries to make purchases and withdraw cash across borders.
Soon, HUMO cardholders will be able to pay and withdraw money in Kyrgyzstan using the “Elkart” network, while “Elkart” users will enjoy the same functionality in Uzbekistan.
According to Olga Amangeldieva, Director of Strategic Business Development at HUMO, the initiative aims to make regional transactions simpler, safer, and more transparent:
“With a HUMO card, you can now easily pay at cafés, shops, or hotels in Kyrgyzstan. There’s no need to buy dollars or soms, open international cards, or lose money on currency conversion. We’re creating a secure and convenient financial environment for everyday use at home and abroad.”
The system is expected to launch in mid-November 2025 across all ATMs and key terminals in Uzbekistan, with full integration planned for the first quarter of 2026.
This partnership also opens new opportunities for businesses: merchants in border areas will be able to accept payments from customers of the neighboring country without connecting to international payment systems or incurring extra fees.
