OpenAI has successfully raised $6.6 billion in its latest funding round, bringing the company’s valuation to $157 billion. This places OpenAI among the top three most valuable startups globally, alongside SpaceX and ByteDance.
The funding round saw participation from major investors such as Thrive Capital, Microsoft, SoftBank, and Nvidia. Thrive Capital led with $1.3 billion, while Microsoft contributed an additional $750 million, on top of its previous $13 billion investment. SoftBank and Nvidia were also key investors. Despite earlier expectations, Apple chose not to participate in this round, Bloomberg reported.
The significant investment underscores the tech sector’s confidence in AI’s potential. OpenAI plans to use the funds to advance AI research and scale up its computing infrastructure.
Brad Gerstner, CEO of Altimeter, highlighted how OpenAI’s valuation stunned Silicon Valley and expressed optimism about the company's future IPO.
