On June 12, the opening ceremony of the VI BRICS Games took place in Kazan (Russia), reports the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan.

The event was held at the city's International Expo Centre and gathered participants and guests from around the world.

The flag bearer for the Uzbek delegation at the ceremony was Alisher Turdiyev, a gold and silver medalist in rowing at the Asian Games.

The BRICS Games will run from June 12 to 24, with 15 sports facilities in Kazan being utilized for the event. Approximately five thousand participants from 93 countries will compete for 387 sets of medals in 27 sports.

The Uzbek delegation is represented by 249 athletes competing in 23 sports. Today, representatives from Uzbekistan will begin their quest for medals.

It is worth noting that this is the first time the BRICS Games are being held in Russia. The Games debuted in 2016 in India, followed by China in 2017, and South Africa in 2018 and 2023. The 2024 Games will feature sports such as swimming, fencing, athletics, as well as more exotic disciplines like acrobatic rock and roll and wushu.
