"Right now, there is no strong reaction from the world. Putin is very sensitive to this. He is testing you, dear partners... He must be stopped. A lack of strong reactions to Russia’s actions sends a message that such behavior is acceptable. This is what Putin is doing."

Timothy Wright from the International Institute for Strategic Studies predicted that Russia's development of new missiles might influence NATO countries' decisions on air defense systems or offensive capabilities.

For context, the latest escalation followed Ukraine’s use of U.S. Atacms missiles to attack a weapons depot in Russia's southwest. On November 21, Ukraine also attacked Russian forces in Kursk with British-made Storm Shadow missiles.

Both sides are ramping up military actions in the three-year-long war, aiming to improve their positions before Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has said he wants to end the war, but it is unclear how he plans to do so. Both sides hope to improve their positions before he takes office.
