President and youth: toward new opportunities
Uzbekistan
A large-scale dialogue between Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the country’s youth took place at the Koksaroy residence. More than 60,000 young people from Karakalpakstan, the regions and studios in Tashkent participated in the meeting.
The head of state emphasized that Uzbekistan sees tremendous economic, social and political strength in its more than 22 million young citizens.
The President noted that every minister, khokim, university rector, school and technical college director must bear personal responsibility for teaching youth foreign languages and professions, engaging them in sports, supporting startup initiatives and ensuring employment so that no young person is left without attention.
In recent years, Uzbek youth have achieved significant results. They won 66 gold, 147 silver and 221 bronze medals at World Science Olympiads. More than 500 students are studying at leading global universities, including Harvard University, Yale University, Princeton University, Columbia University and Cornell University, while over 3,500 are enrolled in top-100 universities worldwide.
Sixty-three startups created by young innovators have entered the markets of the United States, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. Young entrepreneurs now account for 35 percent of the country’s business community.
In sports, young athletes have won 720 gold, 671 silver and 854 bronze medals at international competitions. Uzbekistan has been recognized as the fastest-growing country in the Global Youth Development Index.
This year, the headquarters of the World Youth Movement for Peace will be located in Tashkent, and Samarkand will host the 12th World Conference of Youth Parliament Members, the international startup summit “Take Off,” and the 46th World Chess Olympiad.
It was noted that amid growing global challenges, leaders at all levels must transition to a new system of working with youth. In Uzbekistan, every Thursday has been declared “Youth Day,” when representatives of ministries and local administrations meet with young people, address their concerns and support their initiatives.
Trade and service projects targeting youth are being implemented, special grants and funds are allocated, and competitions and fairs are organized in areas such as horticulture, agriculture, industry, startups, creativity and spiritual development.
