President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Visits Major Construction Site at Almalyk Complex
Uzbekistan
On October 15, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex to inspect the progress of the construction of the third copper beneficiation plant at the "Yoshlik-1" mine.
The Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex is a key player in Uzbekistan’s economy, producing 5% of the country’s industrial output. In 2023, the complex produced 148,000 tons of copper and over 17 tons of gold. The development of the "Yoshlik-1" mine is part of a major investment project aimed at increasing the extraction of valuable metals.
Construction of the third copper beneficiation plant began in 2021, with a total investment of $4.6 billion. Once completed, the facility will have the capacity to process 60 million tons of ore annually and will create 5,600 new jobs. Advanced technology and equipment from several countries will be used to enhance the plant’s efficiency.
During his visit, President Mirziyoyev reviewed the project's economic benefits and future prospects. Once the second phase is completed, the plant's capacity will triple, solidifying Almalyk as one of the largest mining and metallurgical complexes in the world.
