The legal confrontation between Ankara and Tel Aviv has escalated to a new level: Turkish prosecutors have submitted an indictment against Israel's top leadership to an Istanbul court. The cumulative prison sentences sought for the 35 defendants reach an astronomical 4,596 years.

Prosecutors Demand Life Sentences and Thousands of Years in Prison
The primary figure in the case is Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for whom, alongside Defense Minister Israel Katz and other high-ranking officials, prosecutors are demanding life imprisonment. The list of charges includes genocide, massive bombardment of civilian targets in the Gaza Strip, obstruction of humanitarian aid, and crimes against humanity.

The investigation was triggered by the "Global Flotilla of Resilience" incident in October 2025. Following the detention and subsequent deportation of activists attempting to deliver aid to Gaza, Turkish medical professionals and investigators documented instances of maltreatment and robbery. Based on the evidence gathered, the 10th High Criminal Court of Istanbul will examine cases not only against politicians but also against Israel's military command, including Chief of General Staff Eyal Zamir and Navy Commander David Saar Salama. Despite the trial being held in absentia, this decision sets a significant precedent in international judicial practice regarding war crimes.
