The US Promises 'Real' Peace Talks
Political
The US and Russia are preparing for negotiations in Saudi Arabia, with Washington assuring that Ukraine and Europe will not be sidelined in the "real" peace process. However, European leaders are increasingly skeptical of the White House’s true intentions.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the meeting in Riyadh would serve as a test of Moscow’s seriousness. If the process truly gains momentum, Ukraine and European nations will be included in the negotiations. Yet, in Europe, concerns are growing that the Trump administration may be playing a game that could jeopardize the continent’s security.
Meanwhile, the US is discussing with Kyiv the possibility of opening Ukraine’s natural resource market to American investors. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already expressed concerns that concessions might include territories occupied by Russia.
At the same time, Donald Trump has assured that Vladimir Putin does not intend to take control of all of Ukraine. "I am confident he wants to end the conflict," Trump said, but European leaders are not quick to believe him.
French President Emmanuel Macron has urgently gathered European leaders to discuss the potential threat of the US making peace with Putin without considering the interests of Ukraine and Europe.
