Russia Approves Cooperation Agreement with Iran

The agreement stipulates that in the event of aggression by a third country, the other party shall refrain from providing military or any other assistance to the aggressor and shall help resolve the conflict in accordance with the UN Charter and international norms. The document envisions cooperation in the fields of security and defense.
Additionally, the agreement confirms Russia and Iran's commitment to cooperation within the framework of special agreements between their intelligence and security services, as well as to the development of military-technical cooperation. This is seen as a crucial element in maintaining regional and global security.
The agreement also provides for close cooperation on arms control, disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security within the framework of relevant international agreements and organizations.
On Wednesday, April 16, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation unanimously ratified the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with Iran.
Before the vote, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Sergey Kislyak spoke in support of the agreement. Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko stated: "The agreement is very important; I suggest we support it."
The agreement was signed in January in Moscow by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. It affirms the two sides' intention to deepen and expand their relations in all areas of mutual interest. On April 8, the agreement was also ratified by the Russian State Duma.
The agreement also includes the creation of a modern, independent payment infrastructure, a shift to bilateral settlements in national currencies, strengthened interbank cooperation, and the expansion of national financial products.
