Russian President Vladimir Putin gave an interview to journalist Dmitriy Kiselyov on 13 March. He said that Russia was ready for a possible nuclear war and named the conditions for peace talks on Ukraine.

Putin: Russia is ready for nuclear war
During the interview, it was noted that Russia "from a military-technical point of view" is ready for a nuclear war. According to Putin, missiles are constantly on alert. At the same time, Russia will use such weapons only in accordance with its principles, he emphasised.

Responding to a question from journalist Kiselyov about Russia's losses in the fighting and the price Russia is ready to pay, Putin said that refusal to carry out a special operation in Ukraine could have catastrophic consequences for Russia and increase losses several times over.

"Every human life is precious, every life. And the loss of a loved one for a family, for any family, is a tremendous grief. But the question is what? [...] If we abandon these people today, tomorrow our losses may increase many times over, and our children will have no future, because we will feel insecure, we will be a third- or fourth-class country," Putin said.

The Russian leader reiterated that Moscow has never refused peace talks. However, the Russian Federation is now prepared for a dialogue based not on "wishful thinking" but on the realities that have developed "on the ground". At the same time, Putin added, Moscow should be sure that this is not a pause for Ukraine's rearmament, but a "serious conversation" with guarantees of Russia's security. President Putin admitted that he "does not trust anyone" on the issue of concluding a "fair agreement".
