Russian President Vladimir Putin announced plans to increase gas supplies to Uzbekistan during his official visit to Kazakhstan.
On November 27, following the Russia-Kazakhstan negotiations in Astana, Putin made the statement.
"On the agenda is the construction of three new thermal power plants in Kazakhstan. Gazprom ensures uninterrupted gas supply to Kazakh consumers and processes fuel from the Karachaganak field at the Orenburg gas chemical complex. Since last year, Russian gas has been supplied to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan, and we will increase these supplies," Putin said.
Since October 2023, Russia has been exporting natural gas to Uzbekistan via the "Central Asia — Center" pipeline through Kazakhstan. To increase the gas supply, $500 million will be invested in the modernization of Kazakhstan's main gas transmission system.
