The Russian tanker “Anatoliy Kolodkin” delivered 100,000 tons of oil to Cuba despite the US energy blockade. The US Coast Guard allowed the vessel to safely reach the island.
According to the Russian Ministry of Transport, the tanker “Anatoliy Kolodkin” delivered a major shipment of crude oil to Cuba — 100,000 tons. The voyage took place amid strict US restrictions on energy imports to the island.
The New York Times reports that the US Coast Guard effectively permitted the Russian ship to reach Cuban ports.
Previously, US President Donald Trump stated that he does not object to humanitarian oil supplies to Cuba and is not particularly concerned about whether the oil comes from Russia or elsewhere. At the same time, he reiterated that Cuba remains the “next” country under US scrutiny.
The energy situation in Cuba has been tense following the de facto US blockade. In March, the country experienced several widespread blackouts, exacerbating the electricity shortage.
Experts say that the delivery of Russian oil is expected to temporarily stabilize the situation and help mitigate the effects of the energy crisis.
