Saudi Investors to Accelerate $260 Million Hazardous Waste Management Project in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia have discussed accelerating a US$260 million project to build a modern hazardous industrial waste management facility in Uzbekistan. The initiative was a key topic during talks between Aziz Abdukhakimov, Environmental Adviser to the President of Uzbekistan and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, Mohammad Abunayyan, Founder and Chairman of ACWA Power, and representatives of Vision Invest.
The participants reviewed progress on ongoing joint environmental initiatives, including projects focused on waste management and climate change adaptation. They also considered additional measures to speed up implementation of the hazardous industrial waste management complex.
The meeting further addressed bilateral cooperation on establishing Uzbekistan's national monitoring and early warning system for sand and dust storms. The project includes deploying a modern monitoring network, integrating the national platform with international early warning systems, developing joint forecasting models and facilitating data exchange between the relevant institutions of both countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation on projects aimed at introducing advanced environmental technologies, strengthening environmental safety and supporting sustainable development.
