The Laboratory of Climate Science and Environment in France has warned of a possible catastrophic heat wave that scientists predict will occur during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The findings of the French scientists were published in the journal npj Climate and Atmocultural Science.

Scientists have predicted a catastrophic heat wave during the 2024 Olympics
Scientists have analysed the likelihood of a two-week heatwave that will surpass the record heat wave recorded in Paris in 2003. According to them, the summer Olympics will coincide with the peak of the seasonal temperature cycle in the Paris area, which could lead to serious environmental and health consequences due to the heat wave.

Modelling that takes into account global warming and climate change scenarios showed that by 2050, the 2003 record could be exceeded by more than four degrees Celsius in the Ile-de-France region. Thus, the likelihood of a record heatwave during the Olympics, which would surpass all previous records, is estimated by scientists to be relatively high at one chance in a hundred.
