Today, November 1, 2023, the First Transport Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states kicked off at the Uzexpocentre Congress Hall in Tashkent. The event is the culmination of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan during the Samarkand SCO Summit in September 2022 and represents an important moment for the global transport industry.

Ilkhom Mahkamov, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met the forum participants with a welcoming speech, in which he briefly described the reforms and projects implemented in the field of transport in the Republic of Uzbekistan in recent years and those currently under development.

Mahkamov presented specific proposals aimed at further developing the transport and logistics potential of the SCO member states. These proposals include the organisation of alternative transport routes, harmonisation of transport standards, flexible tariff policy and the development of multimodal logistics centres along transport arteries and border areas.

They also announced plans to organise 24/7 work at border control points and simplify the visa issuance process. In addition, the SCO plans to widely introduce digital technologies and intelligent systems, as well as exchange experience in logistics.

Signing and exchange of important documents took place during today's forum. Ilkhom Mahkamov, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Dmitry Zverev, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, and Talgat Lastayev, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding on the creation and development of the international transport corridor Belarus-Russia-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan.

Minister Mahkamov also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the formation and development of an international multimodal transport corridor Russia - Caspian Sea - Turkmenistan - Uzbekistan - Kyrgyzstan. In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Centrum Solutions LLC and Global Ports Services.
