Kazakhstan Seizes Illegal Assets for the First Time

In 2023, Kazakhstan began implementing a new law aimed at reclaiming illegally acquired assets, marking a significant step in the country’s fight against corruption. A special committee was established to oversee this process, and it has now made its first major asset seizure.

The committee filed a lawsuit to confiscate assets worth over $10 million, whose legal origin the defendant could not prove. The court ruled in favor of the state, leading to the transfer of the assets to the government.

The seized assets included cash and items of historical and cultural significance, which experts believe date back to the Saka era.
