They discussed current issues of further strengthening friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to the Chinese leader for the invitation and warm welcome. The head of Uzbekistan congratulated the Chinese leader on the anniversary of China's founding and the tenth anniversary of the One Belt, One Road initiative.

“In a short historical period, the Belt and Road Initiative has turned into a sought-after, inclusive and open platform of interaction for achieving progress and prosperity for all. The fact that the Green Silk Road initiative of the President of the People's Republic of China was first voiced in Uzbekistan in 2016 has a deep symbolic significance," the Uzbek leader said.

It was emphasised that Uzbekistan is determined to deepen multilateral relations with China.

It was noted with great satisfaction that the agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to China in May this year have been consistently implemented, political dialogue has been strengthened, and the two sides have supported each other on key issues.

In recent years, the volume of Chinese investments has increased fivefold, and the number of joint ventures has tripled. Since the beginning of this year, the volume of mutual trade has increased by 36 per cent. The figure is expected to exceed $10 billion by the end of the year.

It was unanimously agreed that there is every reason to increase trade turnover to $20 billion in the next five years.

Uzbekistan expressed interest in increasing high-tech projects by jointly organising the production of innovative products with high added value.

Effective co-operation with leading Chinese banks and the Silk Road Fund was highly appreciated. It was noted that interregional ties have intensified. Delegations from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Shaanxi, Shandong, Jiangsu and Jiangxi provinces have visited Uzbekistan since the beginning of the year.

Particular attention was paid to effective exchange of experience and practical co-operation in studying and implementing China's experience in combating poverty. It was proposed to hold a regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission to review the implementation of all agreements.

The leaders highly appreciated the intensive co-operation in the spheres of culture, education and tourism. China expressed gratitude for supporting the initiative to declare 2023 the "Year of Culture and Arts of the Peoples of Central Asia and China".

It was noted with satisfaction that there is a growing interest in learning Chinese in Uzbekistan, especially among young people. This is largely due to the effective work of the Confucius Institute in Tashkent and Samarkand. Plans have been developed to expand Chinese language teaching and exchanges between young scholars.

The President of Uzbekistan proposed to open branches of leading Chinese universities - Tsinghua University and Beijing University - in Tashkent.

The sides exchanged views on the regional agenda and topical issues of international politics. It was confirmed that the "one China" policy and the position on combating the "three forces of evil" will not change.

It was decided at the meeting to adopt a road map for the implementation of the initiatives put forward. Following the talks, Mirziyoyev invited the Chinese President to visit Uzbekistan.
