Spain and Portugal were hit by a massive blackout
Failures lasted from a few minutes to several hours, affecting the largest cities - Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, and Pamplona. In Portugal, the capital, Lisbon, and other regions were left without power. Problems with electricity supply were also recorded in the south of France, in the border zones.

Due to disruptions, metro trains stopped in Madrid and Valencia, passengers were evacuated at some stations, and large traffic jams formed in Madrid due to non-functioning traffic lights.

Madrid's Barajas International Airport has temporarily suspended operations.

The Spanish government has launched an investigation into the incident. The state-owned energy company Red Electrica has activated its emergency power recovery plan and is collaborating with other suppliers. The National Cybersecurity Institute is investigating the possibility that the blackout could have been caused by a hacker attack.
