The French deputy demanded the return of the statue of freedom: you are not worthy of it

French deputy Raphael Gluxmann made an unexpected proposal - to return the Statue of Liberty to France. The politician stated that the US has lost the values for which this gift was made.
French parliamentarian Raphael Gluxmann demanded that the US return the famous Statue of Liberty, gifted by France almost 140 years ago. According to him, America no longer embodies the ideals of freedom and democracy, and therefore is not worthy of preserving this symbol.
"We gave it to you, but you despise it. So here, at home, she will be safe," the politician said.
Gluxmann, in particular, sharply criticized President Donald Trump's policies, noting that the US supports "tyrants," restricts the freedom of science, and conducts mass deportations. In his opinion, the inscription on the pedestal of the statue - "Give me your fatigue, your poverty..." - no longer corresponds to reality.
In addition, the deputy criticized the close ties of the American president with Elon Musk. He noted that French far-right politicians have turned into a "fan club" for Trump and Tesla CEO, and protesters against the company in the US are now called "internal terrorists."
Gluxmann's statement sparked heated debates. Although his proposal is unlikely to be implemented, it has once again exacerbated the question of how much the US corresponds to the ideals it proclaims.
