The Imam Bukhari complex: a symbol of the rich spiritual heritage and creative potential of our people
Uzbekistan
On November 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Samarkand region to review the progress of socio-economic reforms and determine future tasks with the participation of local officials.
Keeping the tradition, the Head of our state began his visit to Samarkand, with a stop at the mausoleum of Imam Bukhari. Verses from the Quran and dua were recited.
On the initiative of the President, this complex was rebuilt on a grand scale, harmoniously reflecting the high status and enormous spiritual legacy of our distinguished ancestor, the hadith scholar, who occupies an honorable place in the Islamic world.
On a territory covering 45 hectares, a grand mausoleum, a mosque with a capacity for 10 thousand people, an administrative building, a museum, and entrance and exit ayvans have been developed. The 75-meter minarets at the four corners of the ensemble give it a majestic appearance.
Given that this landmark should be not only a place of pilgrimage, but also a center of science, spiritual education, and moral example, and that Imam Bukhari's great research, knowledge, and intellectual excellence should serve as a noble example for pilgrims, especially young people, an innovative museum was created within the complex. It embodies the life and scientific heritage of Imam Bukhari, recognized in the Islamic world as the sultan of hadiths, as well as his contribution to the development of Islamic science and culture.
While the complex previously served 12 thousand pilgrims a day, it now has the capacity to provide services to 65 thousand guests in accordance with international standards.
Moreover, the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center and the School of Hadith Science are located here.
In order to build hotels, trade and service facilities 570 billion soums were allocated. One four-star hotel, two three-star hotels, and 22 family guest houses were constructed. The infrastructure is fully equipped with utility networks, and the surrounding area is landscaped. It is planned to carry out further landscaping and organize parking lots in the area by 2026.
Emphasizing that the mausoleum of Imam Bukhari is a vivid symbol of our people's rich spiritual heritage and creative potential, the Head of our state instructed the responsible officials to ensure the high-quality and timely completion of the final works on the improvement of the complex.
