President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the send-off ceremony for the Uzbekistan national football team for the 2026 World Cup.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the players of the Uzbekistan national team lined up on the field.
The head of state congratulated his compatriots, football fans, members of the national team, the coaching staff, and representatives of the sports community gathered at the stadium on this great football celebration.
It was noted that this day is another historic event for Uzbek football. It is with great hope and good wishes that the national team departs for the World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The President emphasized that our football players have given the country unforgettable moments, and on behalf of the entire nation, he expressed his deep gratitude to them, the parents who raised them, the mentors and coaches who coached them, and all members of the national team.
During the ceremony, the love and devotion with which football fans support the national team was especially noted. The President thanked his compatriots who stood by the players in both triumphant moments and difficult times, unfailingly supporting them.
The activities of fan clubs were also discussed separately. It was emphasized that they not only watch the national team's matches from the stands but also act as the "twelfth man" in each match, lending a special, unique flavor to the game. The head of state expressed confidence that they will continue to support our footballers at the World Cup, along with thousands of compatriots living in Uzbekistan and abroad.
The President noted that football in our country has already become a true friend of every family. He expressed confidence that new champions will emerge in the future from among the younger generation, inspired by the athletes' successes.
It was noted that the attention paid to sport in New Uzbekistan in recent years, the construction of major sports facilities in every region, the establishment of professional football academies at local level, and the recently launched National Football Center lay a solid foundation for our youth to achieve new successes.
It was also emphasized that last year, the Olympic Village, covering over 100 hectares and including five major sports complexes, was completed in the capital, and a magnificent 55,000-seat stadium, fully compliant with FIFA standards, is being built in New Tashkent. Such modern facilities will allow the country to host prestigious international competitions and will motivate our athletes to achieve even greater victories.
Addressing the members of the national team, the head of state emphasized that the people are seeing them off to this major football forum with good wishes and hope. It was noted that the team faces important matches against Portugal, Colombia, and Congo ahead, so the players must take to the field with confidence, dedication, and determination.
"Remember that we are always with you. We are confident that, thanks to the courage, resilience, and willpower inherent in our people, you will deliver a beautiful and confident performance and delight us all," the President said.
