The President Launched the National Reading Movement
The head of state noted that today's world is rapidly changing, and digital technology, modern gadgets, and artificial intelligence are increasingly becoming a part of our lives. A key advantage in such challenging circumstances is a person's ability to think independently.

"A person who reads is distinguished by deep and healthy thinking. And with such awareness, a person is capable of changing society," the President said.

It was noted that in the New Uzbekistan, the culture of reading and attention to books are reaching the level of state policy. A love of books is not only a matter of education but also an important factor determining the future of the nation, the spiritual strength of our people, and the country's competitiveness.

The head of state noted that our great ancestors—Imam Bukhari, Muhammad Khorezmi, Ahmad Ferghani, Alisher Navoi, Mirzo Ulugh Beg, and other thinkers—made a tremendous contribution to the development of human civilization. The primary source of their achievements was their pursuit of knowledge and reading.

For our country to establish itself internationally as a strong nation with great potential, it must rest on two solid foundations: our invaluable scientific and spiritual heritage, as well as modern knowledge and advanced technologies.

The President of our country noted that from the very first days of his presidency, he has prioritized introducing young people to books and fostering their love and interest in knowledge. The "Young Book Lover" competition, held since 2017, has enabled millions of young people to connect with books. The "Young Reading Family" competition promotes the culture of reading in every home.

Based on a resolution adopted earlier this year, a new support system for the most active readers was introduced. The latest national stage of the "Young Book Lover" competition concluded yesterday. Forty-two of the most erudite young men and women from all regions of the country participated, demonstrating their abilities and potential. Three winners were awarded modern cars as a gift from the President.

The head of state sincerely congratulated the winners, their mentors, and parents, emphasizing that such talented, proactive, and knowledge-seeking young people are a true pillar of the New Uzbekistan.

The ceremony focused on international experience in developing a reading culture. In particular, it was noted that the "Arab Book Challenge" program, initiated in 2015 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in the United Arab Emirates, has now become one of the largest educational movements in the world. In a short period, this initiative has reached over 200 million readers.

As part of the close friendship and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates, a decision has been made to take this noble idea to a new level in our country, building on our national spiritual heritage.

To this end, the "National Reading Movement" program is being launched. The head of state noted that a separate decree was signed the day before providing comprehensive state support for this program.

The final stage of this event will now be held annually at the presidential level. The total annual prize fund for the program will be $240,000. The grand prize winner will receive $50,000. This will be the largest award for reading support in the history of our country.

This movement will encompass all regions. Students from grades 1 to 11 of general education schools are eligible to participate.

The president noted that this initiative will contribute to strengthening the culture of reading in schools, families, and society as a whole, as well as awakening a new creative spirit in young people.

"I view this program not just as a book-reading competition, but as a strategic investment in the future of our country. If we put good books in the hands of children today, then tomorrow they will surely be able to build the great future of the New Uzbekistan," said the head of state.

During the ceremony, the President of our country called on all schoolchildren, teachers, parents, and the general public to actively participate in the nationwide movement.

He emphasized that a nation that reads, strives for knowledge, and is imbued with high ideals will never be defeated. He also noted the importance of implementing the idea of our enlightened ancestors, "There is not and cannot be any other path to salvation than knowledge," at the national level.
