For the first time in 40 years, the UNESCO General Conference will be held outside Paris - this autumn, Samarkand will host it. On the eve of this historic event, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay in France.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as part of his state visit to France, held talks with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. The main topic of the meeting was the preparation for the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, which will be held in Samarkand. The forum is also timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the organization.
The parties noted the high level of cooperation and outlined new areas of interaction. At the initiative of Uzbekistan, UNESCO resolutions on access to information and children's education were previously adopted. Bukhara has joined the "Network of Creative Cities," and a UNESCO department has opened at Silk Road University in Samarkand.
Last year, seven new projects were launched in the fields of education, culture, digital and innovative technologies. In addition, the Turanian deserts, the Zarafshan-Karakum corridor, the Uzbek traditions of sericulture and ceramics, the archive of the Emir of Bukhara, and other cultural values are included in the UNESCO lists.
The UNESCO Director-General praised Uzbekistan's active role in promoting cultural and educational heritage and expressed gratitude for the extensive preparations for the upcoming event.
Samarkand is preparing to become a global platform for dialogue on education, science, and culture, reaffirming its historical role as a center of international cooperation.
