On December 12, in Ashgabat, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the International Forum dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality, International Neutrality Day, and the declaration of 2025 as the "International Year of Peace and Trust."
The event, chaired by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, was also attended by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, as well as other leaders of states, heads of government, and heads of international and regional organizations.
In his speech, the President of Uzbekistan, sincerely congratulating the Turkmen side on the 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality, emphasized that this significant date embodies Turkmenistan's unwavering commitment to developing peaceful, trusting, friendly, and mutually beneficial relations with all countries of the world.
"Turkmenistan's neutrality, which has become part of the modern identity of the Turkmen people, is based on its deep historical traditions, cultural and spiritual values, and such inherent noble qualities as generosity, tolerance, and good neighborliness," stated Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In this regard, Turkmenistan's initiative to establish a University of Peace and Neutrality jointly with the United Nations was supported.
The head of state noted that openness to the world, mutual respect, and a commitment to dialogue are fundamental values for the New Uzbekistan. One example of this is Uzbekistan's Samarkand Initiative of Solidarity for Common Security and Prosperity, which aims to engage in dialogue all those striving for peace, harmony, and sustainable development.
Furthermore, Uzbekistan intends to prioritize promoting a global movement in support of a culture of peace and non-violence, strengthening trust in relations between states through political dialogue, and promoting an atmosphere of tolerance, mutual understanding, and solidarity worldwide as its key priorities for its upcoming chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement.
During its chairmanship, it is also planned to declare 2027 the Year of Preventive Diplomacy to support conflict resolution efforts for the benefit of future generations. A program of events will be adopted, including the organization of conferences and forums, and the exchange of parliamentary, public, and youth delegations.
The President of our country noted the growing urgency of maintaining a universal commitment to the principles of peace and mediation in the current context of global tensions and declining trust between states. This is why Uzbekistan supported Turkmenistan's proposal to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, co-sponsoring the relevant UN General Assembly resolution.
He also emphasized that the principles of mutual trust, respect, and unity form the foundation of the policy to transform Central Asia into an area of peace, cooperation, and good-neighborliness.
"The Seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the Region, held last month in Tashkent, once again demonstrated our readiness to strengthen solidarity, take joint action to ensure peace and stability in the region, and expand multifaceted economic cooperation," said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In this context, the head of state emphasized the special role of Turkmenistan's constructive and peace-loving policy in ensuring stability and development in Central Asia.
He expressed confidence that Turkmenistan's international initiatives and proposals, based on the noble ideas of peace and trust, will be adequately reflected in the agenda of Ashgabat's chairmanship in the format of the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of the Region.
Noting the importance of humanitarian interaction for strengthening cooperation based on mutual respect, trust, and solidarity, the Uzbek leader proposed organizing an international humanitarian forum, "Dialogue of Cultures," in Tashkent next year and launching a regional program, "Youth for Peace and Trust."
In conclusion, the head of state emphasized Uzbekistan's readiness to continue making a constructive contribution to building a just and stable world order.
