Putin removes Sergei Shoigu as Russia's defence minister

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed former Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu to the position of Secretary of the country's Security Council. This was reported on the Kremlin's website.
"Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a Decree 'On the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.' To appoint Shoigu Sergey Kuzhugetovich as the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation," the publication notes.
It was previously reported that Putin removed Nikolai Patrushev from the position of Secretary of the Security Council. Patrushev's new position is not specified. Putin proposed appointing Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov as the Minister of Defense of Russia.
On May 11, it was reported that Belousov, who until May 7, 2024, held the position of First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, will leave the government and take up a new job. The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov has been proposed for his position.
