He also emphasized that such pressure plays a crucial role in bringing a quicker end to the war in Ukraine.

Ahead of Monday’s meeting in Brussels, Starmer stressed the need for "all allies to coordinate efforts" to deliver an economic blow to Russia. "I am ready to continue applying pressure alongside our European partners, targeting energy revenues and companies supporting missile factories to help crush Putin’s war machine," he said.

Last month, Trump stated that he would impose additional sanctions on Russia if Putin did not stop the war in Ukraine. He also claimed that he could negotiate an end to the war within a single day. On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote that by attempting to end the war, he would be providing Russia and its president with "great help."

The UK notes that Russia’s economy is deteriorating due to high inflation, rising interest rates, and the financial burden of funding the war in Ukraine, which costs billions of dollars. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the UK has imposed sanctions on 2,100 Russian individuals and entities.

Sanctions against more than 100 ships transporting Russian energy, including 93 oil tankers, have significantly impacted Russia’s oil industry and inflicted serious damage on its economy.

For reference, on Sunday, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the Chequers residence to discuss the situation in Ukraine. Officials stated that Starmer believes Ukraine must be in its strongest position in the coming months to secure peace from a position of strength.
