The US Launches a Military Operation Against the Houthis

Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels have accused the United States of carrying out strikes on their facilities. According to sources close to the Houthis, 15 airstrikes targeted the capital, Sana’a, and its surroundings on March 26. The US military and officials have yet to comment on these claims.

The US Launches a Military Operation Against the Houthis
Since March 15, the US has been conducting a large-scale military operation against the Houthis. US President Donald Trump accused the rebels of piracy and terrorism, stating that any Houthi attack would be considered a threat originating from Iran. Washington has emphasized that it will respond firmly to any Houthi actions against the US and its allies.

The Houthis, in turn, claim to have launched multiple attacks on the "Harry S. Truman" aircraft carrier in the Red Sea.

Reports in the US media suggest the existence of a secret chat discussing military operations against the Houthis. The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg revealed that he was accidentally added to a Signal group chat where US officials discussed strikes on the Houthis. The White House confirmed the existence of this chat.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth denied that military operations were discussed in the chat. National Security Advisor Michael Waltz took full responsibility for adding the journalist to the group.

The Houthis control a significant portion of Yemen. Following the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, they began launching missile and drone strikes against Israel, citing solidarity with Palestinian militants.

Additionally, the Houthis have been attacking ships off Yemen’s coast, including in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. As a result, many international shipping companies have been avoiding the Suez Canal, one of the world’s key trade routes.

The US and its allies have vowed to take decisive action against the Houthis, viewing their activities as a serious threat to global trade and regional stability.
