Trump called Russia's refusal to seize all of Ukraine a "great concession"
World
US President Donald Trump said Moscow allegedly made a significant concession by not seizing all of Ukraine's territory. These words caused resonance, especially against the backdrop of a new large-scale strike against Kyiv and criticism from Europe.
US President Donald Trump, commenting on the situation in Ukraine, expressed the opinion that Russia has made "quite a big concession" by not establishing control over the entire territory of the country. He made this statement during a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gar Støre at the White House on April 24.
According to Trump, both Moscow and Kyiv want peace, and Washington already has a deadline to end the conflict. At the same time, he emphasized that if an agreement is not reached by this time, the US position may change dramatically.
"Tango requires two," Trump added, hinting at the need for a compromise between the two sides.
The US president's statement came amidst the most devastating attack on Kyiv in the past year. As a result of the missile-drone strike, at least 12 people were killed, and another 90 were injured. In response, Trump strongly condemned Moscow's actions in a post on his Truth Social platform:
"Vladimir, STOP! Every week, 5,000 soldiers die. Let's make a peaceful agreement!"
However, Ukraine and European leaders rejected Trump's rhetoric, emphasizing that stopping the attack cannot be considered a concession, especially given the ongoing occupation of Ukrainian territories.
Trump also reported that he had previously sharply criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for refusing to accept the US proposal for territorial concessions from Ukraine.
