Trump decided to revive Alcatraz
World
US President Donald Trump has ordered the restoration and reopening of the legendary Alcatras federal prison on an island in the San Francisco Bay. According to him, the renovated facility will be intended to house "America's most ruthless and cruel criminals."
President Donald Trump instructed the Federal Bureau of Prisons, in conjunction with the US Department of Justice, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security, to revive Alcatraz, a notorious prison closed over 60 years ago. He announced this through the Truth Social social platform, calling for "RESTORE AND OPEN ALKATRAS!"
Trump said the idea of reopening came spontaneously: "It's just an idea that came to me. And I decided - why not embody her?"
He called Alcatraz a symbol of "a serious nation that knew how to deal with dangerous criminals."
Previously, such disgusting figures as Al Capone and "The Birds" Robert Straud were held in this prison. Officially, no successful escape has been recorded in Alcatraz's history - despite five prisoners listed as missing. The prison was closed in 1963 for economic reasons: its maintenance cost three times more than other federal institutions.
Now Alcatras Island is one of the main tourist attractions of San Francisco. How exactly the joint coexistence of the historical heritage site and the new prison will be organized has not yet been announced.
