On April 7, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed matters related to Iran at the White House.

President Trump stated that Washington had already begun direct talks with Tehran. “We are in direct negotiations with Iran, and they have already started,” he said while addressing reporters at the White House on Monday, April 7, following his meeting with Netanyahu.

According to Trump, a "very important, nearly highest-level" direct meeting is expected to take place this coming Saturday, April 12.

“I think everyone agrees that reaching a deal would be the preferred path,” Trump added. However, if the talks fail, he warned that Iran would face “great danger.” “Iran must not obtain nuclear weapons. And if negotiations fail, I think it will be a very bad day for Iran,” emphasized the U.S. president.

He also mentioned that he discussed the issue with Netanyahu during their meeting.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed the planned talks between Tehran and Washington, noting that they would be of an indirect nature. The meeting will take place in Oman and, according to him, represents “both an opportunity and a test.” “The ball is in America's court,” he wrote on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).

Previously, Iranian authorities had rejected direct talks with the U.S. administration but expressed readiness for indirect dialogue. According to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Tehran responded to Trump's letter through Oman.

At the same time, amid rising concerns of a potential U.S. attack, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei placed the country’s armed forces on high combat readiness
