Trump's Adviser Promises Hamas Will Never Govern Gaza Again

Trump's national security adviser promised that Hamas will never govern Gaza again. Mike Waltz stated that the highest priorities should be to ensure a ceasefire and peace. However, he added, "If Hamas reneges on the agreement, the U.S. will support Israel in doing what it must."
Mike Waltz, national security adviser to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, stated on Sunday that if Hamas backs out of the truce deal for hostages in Gaza, the U.S. will support Israel in "doing what needs to be done."
In an interview with "Face the Nation," Waltz added, "Hamas will never govern Gaza again. That is absolutely unacceptable."
He also emphasized that the ceasefire should be "celebrated."
"We see three women alive," he said of the first release on Sunday. "If we hadn’t entered into this [agreement], these people would have died." Waltz noted that the hostages held by Hamas outnumbered the American hostages during the 1979 Iran crisis, but now "we are waiting for a Reagan moment."
This was a reference to the release of American hostages in 1981, 444 days after Ronald Reagan took office.
Waltz also explained that Trump and his team had made it clear to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "If Hamas withdraws from the agreement and begins moving the goalposts, we will support Israel in doing what it must."
It is worth noting that the peace agreement came into effect on Sunday morning. Under the agreement, three Israelis were released, along with 90 Palestinians who returned to their homes.
