Turkic States Prepare to Launch a Joint Satellite
Special Project
The Space Technology Conference-2025 is currently taking place in Azerbaijan. As part of this international event, the fourth meeting of the heads of space agencies from Turkic States Organization (TSO) member countries — including Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan — as well as observer states Hungary and Turkmenistan, was held. This was reported by the Uzcosmos agency.
The participants discussed enhancing cooperation in the space sector, accelerating technology transfer, sharing experiences, developing joint programs for peaceful space exploration, and co-developing space devices.
One of the key topics was the joint CubeSat satellite project being developed by the Turkic states. It was noted that Uzcosmos specialists are actively participating and that the satellite’s engine is planned to be manufactured by Uzbek engineers.
Uzcosmos also proposed hosting a CanSat competition among TSO member states for building and testing mini-satellites. This initiative aims to boost youth interest in space technology, engineering, and astronomy across the region.
Additionally, the Azerbaijani side expressed readiness to launch educational programs on a “Virtual Space Academy” and geoinformation systems for TSO citizens and observers. These projects will broaden public knowledge about space and engage youth in the field.
The third season of the Space Camp Türkiye, to be held at the GUHEM Aerospace and Aviation Training Center established in 2023, was also discussed. Since its launch, nearly 150 students have attended, studying astronomy, rocketry, astrophysics, the solar system, and more.
Lastly, it was agreed that the fifth meeting of TSO space agency leaders will be held in Uzbekistan.
