"He is a smart man, a tough politician. Under Biden, he took money from the U.S. like a child takes candy," – this is how U.S. President Donald Trump described Volodymyr Zelensky. He once again accused the Ukrainian leader of not being grateful for American assistance.
On Sunday, March 9, U.S. President Donald Trump gave an interview to Fox News, where he commented on the suspension of military aid deliveries to Kyiv. According to him, Ukraine may not survive even with military support from the U.S. Moreover, Trump reiterated that Zelensky does not show gratitude for Washington’s assistance.
"He is a smart man, a tough politician. Under Biden, he took money from the U.S. like a child takes candy," Trump said. Nevertheless, the White House leader emphasized that he is expecting Zelensky to return to Washington and sign an agreement on Ukraine’s rare earth metal reserves.
Trump also described his stance on Russia as "tough," stressing that he maintained such a position during his first presidential term. As an example, he cited his opposition to the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline between Russia and Germany.
Additionally, Trump identified Russia and China as major issues preventing the U.S. from reducing defense spending. However, he also noted that he maintains good relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as the leaders of China and North Korea.
According to NBC News, citing anonymous sources, Trump privately indicated to his advisers that resuming military aid to Ukraine would require a shift in Zelensky’s approach to negotiations with Russia.
NBC sources suggest that this could involve Kyiv making concessions regarding the transfer of occupied territories to Russia and the possibility of holding new elections in Ukraine.
