UN General Assembly demands withdrawal of Russian troops from Zaporizhzhia NPP
The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution on the technical and physical safety of Ukraine's nuclear facilities, including the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The document was supported by 99 countries, 9 delegations voted against it and 60 abstained. Deutsche Welle quoted the website of the General Assembly as saying.

The resolution demands that Russia cease its aggression against Ukraine and unconditionally withdraw all its armed forces from the territory of this country within its internationally recognised borders. As the dpa news agency notes, although the approval of 99 countries is usually considered a success for resolutions, the previous resolution on the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine garnered more than 140 votes in favour.

The document separately demands that Russia urgently withdraw its military personnel and other unauthorised personnel from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) and immediately return the plant to full Ukrainian control.

Russia has also been urged to co-operate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) until the plant is returned to full Ukrainian control.

Zaporizhzhia NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. The plant has not generated electricity since 11 September 2022. All six ZNPP reactors are in cold shutdown mode.
