UN rejects Russian and US resolutions on Israel-Hamas war
The UN Security Council was unable to pass a resolution on Hamas's war on Israel after two drafts, one proposed by the United States and the other by Russia and China, failed to garner the required number of votes.

Initially, Russia and China vetoed the draft resolution proposed by the US. It demanded a cessation of hostilities to ensure the supply of food, water and medicine to the people of the Gaza Strip. Saudi Arabia also voted against the draft, with 10 Security Council members supporting the proposal and two abstaining.

Russia proposed an alternative draft resolution calling for a large-scale ceasefire, but it also failed to garner the necessary number of votes.

Israel objected to both versions of the resolution, arguing that Hamas would take advantage of any ceasefire that worsened the situation for civilians.
