More than 4,600 children have already died in the Gaza Strip and some 9,000 have been injured, according to Catherine Russell, the foundation's director. Essentially, the area has become a children's cemetery.
There are more than 1 million children in the Gaza Strip, many of whom are missing or trapped under the rubble of buildings. This was reported by the executive director of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) Catherine Russell. Her words are quoted on the UNICEF website.
"In Gaza, more than 4,600 children have reportedly been killed, with nearly 9,000 reportedly injured. Many children are missing and believed buried under the rubble of collapsed buildings," she said.
"The intermittent opening of Gaza’s border crossings to shipments of humanitarian supplies is insufficient to meet the skyrocketing needs. And with winter around the corner, the need for fuel could become even more acute," Russell noted.
Earlier UNICEF reported that more than 400 children are killed or injured every day in the Gaza Strip, which has been under heavy shelling by the Israeli army for several weeks. According to the fund's spokesperson, Gaza has essentially become a children's cemetery.
