President Vladimir Putin met in the Kremlin with Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of the U.S. president, accompanied by Jared Kushner. Aide Yuri Ushakov said the conversation was substantive and “did not move the sides away from peace.”
Ushakov noted that both sides agreed not to disclose the details of the negotiations, though significant work remains ahead to achieve real progress.
He added that:
Moscow received four additional documents from the U.S. beyond Donald Trump’s original 27-point plan;
Putin emphasized that Russia is ready to consider some elements of the plan, while others are criticized by Moscow;
no compromise version has yet been found, though some American ideas are worth discussing;
the meeting allowed both sides to explore ways toward a long-term settlement;
the talks focused on the essence of the U.S. plan rather than specific proposals;
a potential Putin–Trump meeting will depend on progress in negotiations.
The U.S. delegation conveyed greetings from Donald Trump, and Putin sent his regards and several political messages in response.
From the Russian side, Yuri Ushakov and Russian Direct Investment Fund CEO Kirill Dmitriev took part in the meeting.
