Uzbekistan and Afghanistan signed a key agreement on the joint management of the Amu Darya basin's water resources. This is an important step towards environmental sustainability and strengthening regional cooperation.
The document was signed within the framework of the visit of the Uzbek delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jamshid Abduzuhurov to Afghanistan. It covers issues of sustainable and equitable distribution of water resources, which is of strategic importance for the countries of Central Asia.
During the meeting with the Governor of Balkh province, Khoja Muhammad Yusuf Wafo, the prospects for expanding bilateral trade, simplifying agricultural exports and imports, sanitary and quarantine cooperation, and strengthening business ties were also discussed.
The conclusion of negotiations with representatives of the Afghan Ministries of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Energy was the signing of an agreement providing for a responsible approach to the transboundary management of the Amu Darya River. This agreement strengthens not only economic interaction but also regional environmental security.
