Uzbekistan and Afghanistan Strengthen Security Cooperation

Chairman of Uzbekistan’s State Security Service, Bahodir Kurbanov, met in Kabul with Afghanistan’s Acting Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid. The two sides discussed regional security, border cooperation, and bilateral relations.

Uzbekistan and Afghanistan Strengthen Security Cooperation
On July 21, General-Colonel Bahodir Kurbanov, Chairman of Uzbekistan’s State Security Service (SSS), held talks in Kabul with Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, Acting Minister of National Defense of Afghanistan.

The Uzbek delegation also included SSS Deputy Chief Major General Farrukh Mukhtarov and Border Troops Commander Major General Salimjon Khusanov.

The meeting focused on key security issues, including border coordination and enhancing bilateral ties. The Uzbek side acknowledged Afghanistan’s recent improvements in national security and economic development, and stressed the importance of deepening cooperation.

In response, Mujahid thanked Uzbekistan for its constructive stance in international platforms and affirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to expanding regional cooperation.

Earlier this year, in February, Acting Deputy PM Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar visited Tashkent, where agreements were reached on reducing customs duties on 10 product categories, expanding energy projects, and attracting Uzbek investments.
