Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan invite to travel the Silk Road
Uzbekistan
Samarkand and Baku will become part of a new international route that will reveal the ancient history of the region to tourists from all over the world.
Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have decided to join forces for one thing - to give tourists an unforgettable journey along the legendary Silk Road! The two states are launching a large-scale joint project that will make ancient cities closer and more accessible to foreign guests.
According to the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, key agreements were reached during a meeting between the committee chairman, Umid Shadiyev, and the Deputy Head of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, Azada Huseynova. The negotiations took place in Samarkand.
The result was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the National PR Center and the Azerbaijan Tourism Bureau. The joint route was named Joint Silk Road Highlights Tour. The main goal is to interest travelers from Central Europe by offering them unique cultural and historical experiences.
The new route will connect Baku, Shemakha, Khiva, Bukhara, and Samarkand - the true pearls of the East. In parallel, the parties will launch joint tourism exhibitions, road shows, and business events to attract leading global tour operators.
The project closely resembles the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev "One tour - the whole region," announced at the "Central Asia - EU" summit on April 4. There are plans to develop a single visa for all of Central Asia, which will make travel around the region even easier and more convenient.
The first results are already inspiring: in January-February 2025, 1.3 million tourists visited Uzbekistan - a 30% increase compared to the same period last year.
