Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to Remove Trade Barriers on 20 Product Categories

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will remove tariff and non-tariff barriers on approximately 20 categories of goods starting August 10, a move expected to facilitate bilateral trade and expand business opportunities. The decision follows a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission held in late July in Aktau with the participation of the prime ministers of both countries.
The announcement was made by Yeraly Tugzhanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan, during the Uzbekistan–Kazakhstan Business Forum. According to the ambassador, the relevant decisions were adopted within a week after the commission meeting, making it one of the fastest resolutions of bilateral trade issues.
Tugzhanov noted that the current pace of economic cooperation reflects the close partnership between the presidents of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. He added that the goal of increasing bilateral trade to $10 billion remains achievable, with mutual trade rising by nearly 38% during the first five months of the year. Kazakhstan also sees potential to expand exports to Uzbekistan across 261 product categories.
Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan Davron Vakhabov confirmed that the measures cover around 20 product categories. He said businesses had long raised concerns over existing trade restrictions and expressed confidence that their removal would provide a significant boost to commercial cooperation between the two countries.
