Uzbekistan Introduces an Environmental Rating System for Regions
Uzbekistan
Starting from September 1, 2025, Uzbekistan will implement an environmental rating system for its regions. This new assessment system will be public, allowing for better monitoring of the country’s environmental situation. The initiative is part of a presidential decree issued by Shavkat Mirziyoyev aimed at improving environmental protection policies.
The rating will consider several key factors, including air pollution levels, water quality, green space coverage, waste recycling rates, and other environmental indicators. Regular updates of the data will help track changes in ecological conditions and develop effective measures for improvement.
In addition to the rating system, regions will introduce environmental passports and master plans to develop strategies for ecological enhancement. International experts on "green development" will be involved in implementing reforms, with their work funded through grant resources. The project will be overseen by the Ministry of Ecology, led by Aziz Abdukhakimov.
Thus, Uzbekistan’s environmental policy is reaching a new level. The government is focusing not only on eliminating pollution consequences but also on implementing a systematic approach to its prevention.
